Everything was seasoned so nicely and the dumpling texture was perfect. Also they have fried anchovies (or maybe smelt?) which is one of our faves and not always easy to find. Really cheerful service as well.
best sesame balls and shrimp and chive dumplings, also cheap authentic dim sum, great value, generous with shrimp, pork, beef. my go-to for picnic food for golden gate park. cash only and dimsum items sold in sets of 3. combo plates are great and cheap, 1 plate can feed two people! 1 combo plate, 1 sesame ball, and 1 baked cha siu bun for $15! Great fried rice and broad rice noodles, sweet and sour chicken, and fried fish. Cash only!
The woman working was so so friendly, the food was yummy - I got a variety of noodles, eggplant tofu, some dim sum, and buns. All for under $16! Then when I tipped she gave me more food Excited to go back
Neighborhood bakery, deli, dim sum takeout business that is family operated. Convenient location if you live in the area as parking can be a challenge on busy Judah. There is a city metered parking lot around the block if you don't find anything on the street. Also numerous bus and metro lines run thru the neighborhood. Establishment is takeout and cash only. They have dim sum, various steamed and baked buns, a hot food deli with chow mien, chow fun, chow fan, and 5-6 meat and veggie items if you want a one or two item meal for lunch or dinner. I had the: - steamed combo big bun "Dai Gai Bau" of chopped chicken, mushroom, and egg for $3 (tasty but wish there was more filling and less bun), - baked bbq pork bun "Gok Char Siu Bau" for $2 (tasty and takes 25 minutes for them to bake), - Sesame Ball with Red Bean Filling for $1.20 (3 for $3.60, good version), - Egg Roll for $1.20 (pass on this version), and - Fried Chicken (by weight, two medium sized drumsticks for $3.40, a bit salty). Their dim sum is 3 for $3.60 and deli combo plate to go is $8.95 plus tax. Decent for a neighborhood deli and bakery and when you have a craving for some quick, hot food.
A gigantic mound of Chinese comfort food for a very good price! The taste is exactly as I remember it from SF Chinatown many many years ago. Also, you can ask for more to be loaded onto the combo plate for extra $$! So I gave a bit of tip too. This location is also convenient and walkable. It is the local joint to go to for some quick, hot, and well-priced Chinese food and dim sum! They even have fully stuffed tofu, chicken dumplings, and veggies!
I think this place has been here for 30 years. The only reason I didn't not come here more often is that the parking is difficult. One needs to be taking MUNI, walking by, or have someone drive you and wait while you are ordering. That being said, the taste of the dim sum served here is just like my grandma's dim sum (also a restaurant owner). It screams home made with love. There is NO ambiance. One has to seperate the look of this place from the actual taste of the food. The taste being "wonderful". This place is the definition of mom and pop, hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Obviously if it looks like the food has been sitting out for a while, do not get it. It is hard for any restaurant/bakery to gauge demand. This place has been here for a very long time and over that period (30 years or so)...I am not aware of any family, friends or colleagues coming down with a gastrointestinal illness or other. For good measure, I looked up the health inspection over the past three years. This Bakery had an "unscheduled" or surprise inspection in a January 2023 and PASSED. This place will not be listed in any tourist guide for best places to eat in SF. But take it from a native San Franciscan, this is a quintessential taste experience. The locals know. The service is on par with the legendary wait staff (cigarette hanging out of the corner of their lip) at Sam Wo in San Francisco where the food was thrown on the table...
Felt hungry after a walk in Golden Gate Park and craving dim sum. This place offers most dim sum at 3.5$. In SF this is where I come to feel like I can afford take out, other than Chinatown. the portions are huge. The siu mai are so big and all meaty. Not to generalize, but you know the place is legit when you see little kids of the family were having the same food they sell. And also cash only and the old school hand writing menu and a little calculator! No sf mandate service fee no screen to add tips!!! They are exactly what I was looking for and really thankful for businesses like these in the city.
Came here for quick takeout and was not disappointed. Ordered a two-item combo with chao fen and at $8.75 it's def worth the money. I ordered curry and veggies, which are staples IMO. Admittedly there were not any beef options (or I just got there too late), but the vegetables tasted great. It was a good variety. The curry had enough chicken in it and was cooked long enough to taste good. I'm normally very sensitive to MSG and I didn't feel any awful after effects the next day. Would come back!
